be any individual of any rank or EMS certification level. However,
if the Transportation Officer is going to handle communications, a
Paramedic is preferable, as they will be making all hospital consultations.

soon as practical, usually from among the 2nd due units.

The
Transportation Officer' responsibilities include: |

- Contacting
EMRC via 800 mHz radio on 9-Charlie (or by phone 1-877-840-4245)
to get a run-down on hospital bed availability.
- Establishing
a staging area for transport units
- NOTE:
Personnel on units directed to the staging area are to remain
with their vehicles unless ordered otherwise.
- Requesting
helicopter support as needed and determining landing zone(s).
- Designating
heli-base (landing zone) officer as needed.
- Determining
which patients will be transported to what hospital and by which
ambulance/medic unit/helicopter.
- All
hospital notifications and/or consultations to reduce radio traffic
and confusion.
- Transportation
officer may assign an individual as an EMS Communications
Officer to handle the hospital communications, including notifications
and/or consultations.
- Should
the incident have a large number of victims, the Transportation
Officer may assign a Disposition Officer to arrange patient transportation,
the mode of that transportation, and the destination of the patient.
