The
Incident Command System is certainly often used on significant fires,
major EMS incidents, and combinations of the two. The questions are:
- How
extensive does an incident have to be before the ICS is implemented,
and
- How
much of the ICS needs to be put into place when you have an incident
that overwhelms your initial response units, but comes up short
of being a disaster?
The
first question is relatively simple: the EMS-ICS should be implemented
any time there are 5 or more patients requiring transport, or more than
8 persons involved with potential or confirmed injuries.
The
answer to the second question is not a short answer, so responding units
