Recycling Expanded – July 1, 2008




RECYCLING EXPANDED… Montgomery County on July 1 announced the expansion of its recycling program to accept most plastic items, making it the foremost program in the Washington Metropolitan Region. County Executive Isiah Leggett, left, and Montgomery County Councilmember Nancy Floreen helped unveil the new program at the County’s Recycling Center, displaying examples of the many new items that can now be placed in blue recycling bins. Breast Cancer Awareness Month – October 9, 2007

BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH… The Montgomery County Council on Oct. 9 re-affirmed its support in the fight against breast cancer by declaring October as “Breast Cancer Awareness Month” in the County. Healthcare providers from around the County attended ceremonies in Rockville in which Raquel Samson, from the Primary Care Coalition of Montgomery County, accepted the proclamation on behalf of the Montgomery County Breast Cancer Workgroup from Councilmember Nancy Floreen (front, third from left). At far left is Merle Steiner, a member of Councilmember Floreen’s staff and a breast cancer survivor.

Down Syndrome Awareness – October 2, 2007

On the Right Road – April 27, 2007

ON THE RIGHT ROAD… Montgomery County on Friday, April 27, marked 2007 United Nations Global Road Safety Week with ceremonies in Rockville. The event drew attention to the fact that 3,300 people are killed in roadway crashes every day worldwide, including 120 daily deaths in the United States. Among those in attendance, left to right, were Rockville City Councilmember Susan Hoffmann, Montgomery County Police Assistant Chief Drew Tracy, Congressman Chris Van Hollen, County Councilmembers Valerie Ervin and Nancy Floreen, State Delegate William Bronrott and Ben Shnider of the Association for Safe International Road Travel (ASIRT). At the ceremonies, County Executive Isiah Leggett presented a proclamation to ASIRT President Rochelle Sobel. |

Equal Pay – April 24, 2007
