It has been our dream to have a strong wood shop program here at the Conservation Corps. True, we have made things from wood off and on for years, but there was never a wood shop and sales plan. However, this is no longer the case.
One of the many goals of the Conservation Corps and the Friends of the MCCC, Inc., Board were to take our fledgling wood product effort and develop it into significant part of the Corps program. We are definitely on our way. First, due to the valiant effort of volunteer Sue Nocitra, the Corps now has a wood product brochure, which will be distributed to target markets throughout the County.
Additionally, the Corps has redesigned its wood product line to include a butterfly box, a bat house, paper towel holder and a key rack. Besides promoting our wood products through targeted mailings, the Corps will be exhibiting its wood products this year at such events as the Agricultural Historical Farm Park's Annual Spring Festival and the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair in August. Please come by and see us.
Not only will the Corps receive more revenues from the increased construction and sale of wood products, corpsmembers will receive valuable hands-on woodcrafts training. Of course, the confidence gained by the corpsmember from building a beautiful wood product that someone else thinks enough of to buy is an added bonus.
