Staff coordinates referrals, placements, and oversees services for homeless families placed in emergency shelters and motels. The emergency shelter system for families consists of shelters and motels under contract for placements of homeless families.

Homeless Services  Adults without Children

Staff provides assessment and case management services to homeless single adults in the emergency shelter system. Initial assessments are conducted at the Crisis Center, located on the first floor at 1301 Piccard Drive in Rockville.  Clients placed in the Community-Based Shelter on Wilkins Avenue in Rockville are assigned a case manager. Supportive Housing Clinical Teams

The Supportive Housing Clinical Teams are regionalized in our three main service centers to provide case management services to families in supported housing programs.  These include programs operated in partnership with the Housing Opportunities Commission and State Rental Allowance Program participants, as well as families placed in emergency shelters and the hard-to-serve Temporary Cash Assistance participants.

Transitional Services

Transitional housing and case management services are provided to families who homeless at the time of referral and demonstrate a potential for economic self-sufficiency and improved family functioning within two years.  Requires a referral.

 

Family Self-Sufficiency

Subsidized housing and case management services are provided to homeless families who demonstrate motivation to become economically self-sufficient within five to seven years.

Shelter Services

  • The Shelter Services unit ensures the delivery of homeless services to homeless families and single adults through the administration of 36 contracts. Through the homeless contracts homeless persons receive shelter, case management, and referrals for mental health, substance abuse, domestic violence, and employment services.

     

    • Homeless Family Services: Assessments for homeless families with children are completed in each of the regional offices.  The unit coordinates the wait list for family shelter placement, completes the referrals when the family is placed and monitors the contract providers.

    • Single Adult Shelters: Initial assessments are conducted at the Crisis Center located on the first floor at 1301 Piccard Drive in Rockville.  Case management services are provided to the residents through staff and a network of contract providers. Homeless Adult Services coordinates the delivery of emergency and transitional shelter services for the homeless. The program also coordinates service providers and serves as liaison to community organizations and neighborhood groups on homeless issues.
