The Maryland Energy Assistance Program (MEAP) helps eligible families with the cost of winter heating. The amount of your MEAP grant is based on your income and the type of fuel used for heat.  The grant is a one time only payment per heating season and is intended to cover part of your heating costs.  Your MEAP grant is sent directly to your heating supplier.

Electric Universal Service Program

The Electric Universal Service Program (EUSP) is a State of MD program to help low-income electric customers pay their electric bills.  Help may be available if the electric service is active or inactive. This program can offer eligible electric customers:

§         Help to pay your current electric bill

If you are eligible, a grant will be sent directly to your electric utility to help pay past due or ongoing bills.  Benefits may help reduce monthly bills.

Utility Service Protection

Utility Service Protection (USPP) Provides MEAP eligible households access to an even monthly payment program and turn-off protection.  The customer's annual utility costs minus the MEAP benefit is used to calculate the even monthly payment for participants.

Furnace Repair/Replacement

A furnace repair or replacement service is available on a limited basis if furnace is

  inoperable.

Weatherization

The MEAP and EUSP programs offer a Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) to help make your home more energy efficient at no cost to eligible households when funds are available.   Both homeowners and renters may be eligible.  For renters, the landlord may be required to contribute a part of the cost.
