The FDA, part of the Federal Government, regulates the safety and effectiveness of food products, additives, drugs, medical devices, and cosmetics. Contact the FDA for information on safe drug use and side effects, vitamins, and laws regulating medicines and foods. FDA has information on topics including cancer, health fraud, nutrition, buying medicines online, and food safety.

HELP

Volunteer programs that provide emergency food. Some also provide emergency resources, transportation, clothing, furniture and financial assistance.

Participants perform two hours of volunteer service and pay $20.00 monthly to purchase groceries worth approximately $40.00 to $45.00.

Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program
Federally funded program that provides healthy supplemental foods and nutrition counseling for pregnant women, new mothers, infants and children under age five. Applicants must have a gross income (before taxes) equal to or less than 185% of the federal poverty level. Foster care, Medical Assistance, Temporary Cash Assistance and Food Supplement Program clients are income eligible. Call for an appointment or for more information:

Match disabled individuals, 60 years old and above, who are unable to get their groceries into their homes on a regular basis. Red Cross volunteers either shop for you, or escort you to the grocery store and give assistance while in the grocery store. Income eligibility requirements. Contact to request an application.
