program to welcome home and provide academic and social opportunities
and appropriate support services for veterans of Operation Iraqi
Freedom (OIF) and/or Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF), all veterans,
and active and reserve service members. Core program features:

| VA
educational benefits may be used while the servicemember is on active
duty or after the servicemember's separation from active duty with
a fully honorable military discharge. All participants must have
a high school diploma, equivalency certificate, or have a completed
12 hours toward a college degree before applying for benefits. VA
educational benefits include the following: |
| Montgomery
GI Bill - Active Duty |
| Provides
up to 36 months of education benefits. May be used for degree and
certificate programs, flight training, apprenticeship/on-the-job
training and correspondence courses. Generally benefits are payable
for 10 years following your release from active duty. You can apply
by filling out VA
Form 22-1990, Application for Education Benefits. |
Post
9/11 GI Bill |
| Veterans,
service members, reservists, and National Guard members with active
duty service since Sept. 11, 2001, may be eligible for this benefit.
Individuals may apply online through the GI Bill website. Veterans
have up to 15 years after discharge to use this benefit, and longer
if they have a disability. Allowances up to $1,800 per
month are available, in addition to tuition. Not only will it provide
eligible individuals with college tuition assistance, but for many
participants it also provides a housing allowance, a stipend for
books and supplies, and the option of sharing these benefits with

| Veterans
Educational Assistance Program (VEAP) |
| Available
if you first entered active duty between January 1, 1977 and June
30, 1985, and if you elected to make contributions from your military
pay to participate in this education benefit program. May be used
for degree and certificate programs, flight training, apprenticeship/on-the-job
training and correspondence courses. If you wish to withdraw your
contributions, you can apply by filling out VA
Form 22-1990, Application for Education Benefits. |
| Survivors'
and Dependents' Educational Assistance Program (DEA) |
|
Provides education
and training opportunities to eligible dependents of certain veterans.
Offer up to 45 months of education benefits, which may be used
for degree and certificate programs, apprenticeship, and on-the-job
training. To be eligible you must be the son, daughter, or spouse
of:
- A veteran
who died or is permanently and totally disabled as the result
of a service-connected disability. The disability must arise
out of service in the Armed Forces.
- A veteran
who died from any cause while such service-connected disability
was in existence.
- A servicemember
missing in action or captured in line of duty by a hostile force.
- A servicemember
forcibly detained or interned in line of duty by a foreign government
or power.
- A servicemember
who is hospitalized or receiving outpatient treatment for a
service-connected permanent and total disability and is likely
to be discharged for that disability. This change is effective
December 23, 2006.

Assistance.

| Higher
Education Opportunity Act
- In-State Tuition for Military Members and their Families |
| For
periods of enrollment that begin after July 1, 2009, members of
the armed forces (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast
Guard) on active duty for a period of more than 30 days and his
or her spouse, or his and her dependent children will be eligible
to receive in-state tuition at public colleges and universities
in the state where they reside or are permanently stationed.
Once a Service member or their family members are enrolled and paying
in-state tuition, they will continue to pay the in-state tuition
rate as long as they remain continuously enrolled at the institution
even if the Service member is reassigned outside the state. Signed
into law on August 14, 2008 and amends and extends the Higher Education
Act of 1965. This requirement applies to all public institutions
that receive funds under a program authorized by the HEA. Please
contact the Veterans Affairs office or the financial aid or registrar's
office at the institution you are attending for more information. |

| Information
on education benefits for Maryland veterans, G.I. benefits, tuition
waivers, and educational and postsecondary institutions. Provide
a full list of Need Based Grants, Legislative Scholarships, Loan
Assistant Repayment programs, Career Based and Unique Populations
Scholarships as well as other programs. Maryland offers three scholarships
for veterans and their eligible dependents. |

an environment that helps veterans pursue their academic and personal
golas, explore different learning experiences, and be involved in
campus life. Website features information on educational benefits,
financial aid, campus programs and creation, community resources,
and a Veteran's Student Organization Forum. Veteran student organization,
TerpVets, provide community and fellowship of student veterans.
The Pat Tillman Foundation established Leadership
Through Action Tillman Military Scholarships that will
cover study-related expenses, including tuition, frees, books and
room and board, for veteran and active servicemen and their dependents.
