Support the Air Force mission by providing worldwide emergency assistance, sponsoring education assistance programs and offering an array of base community enhancement programs that improve quality of life for Airmen and their families. The Society provides interest free loans and grants based on the individual situation for needs such as basic living expenses, emergency travel, vehicle expenses, funeral expenses, medical/dental, child care/respite, moving expenses and miscellaneous expenses. Eligible persons include:

  • Active duty Air Force personnel and their eligible family members
  • Retired Air Force personnel and their eligible family members, but not on a continuing basis, and based on a case-by-case review
  • Air National Guard or Air Force Reserve personnel away from home station on extended active duty 15 days or more under Title 10 USC
  • Spouses and dependent age children of deceased Air Force personnel (who died on active duty or in retired status)

Airmen or eligible family members who have an emergency need should contact the nearest Air Force Aid Society office.

Red Cross provides emergency communications, access to emergency financial assistance, information and referral, veterans assistance, and aid in the field where Red Cross workers are deployaed to service with America's military. Under partnership agreements with the Air Force Aid Society, Army Emergency Relief, Coast Guard Mutual Assistance, and Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, the American Red Cross provides quality, reliable financial assistance to eligible applicants. Types of assistance include financial assistance for emergency travel, burial of a loved one, assistance to avoid privation, etc. The Casualty Travel Assistance Program (CTAP) provides travel assistance for two immediate family members to attend a memorial or funeral service for a service member killed on active duty in the combat zone and to travel to the bedside of a service member wounded in the combat zone.

AER is the Army's own emergency financial assistance organization and is dedicated to "Helping the Army Take Care of its Own". Help with emergency financial needs for food, rent or utilities, emergency transportation and vehicle repair, funeral expenses, medical/dental expenses, personal needs when pay is delayed or stolen, and give undergraduate-level education scholarships, based primarily on financial needs, to children of soldiers. Emergency relief eligible for:

  • soldiers on extended active duty and their dependents;
  • members of the Army National Guard and the U.S. Army Reserve on continuous active duty for more than 30 days and their dependents;
  • soldiers retired from active duty because of longevity or physical disability, or retired upon reaching age 60 (Reserve Components) and their dependents;
  • widows, widowers, or orphans of soldiers who died while on active duty or after they retired.

Provide emergency financial and other support to the families of soldiers, with a focus on wounded warrior care and transition assistance. Includes cash grants, not loans, paid directly to mortgage lenders, auto mechanics, utility companies, doctors and other providers. Assistance is usually provided within 24 to 72 hours after receiving pertinent information from the warrior or family member. All requests for assistance are made through the Operation Homefront online application for assistance.

Emergency financial relief often covers expenses such as: utility bills (gas, electric, water, cable, internet, and phone service), car payments and repair costs, mortgage and rent payments, groceries, baby formula, and household supplies, school supplies and clothing, and medical bills. Exclusively assist U.S. servicemen and women who have been severely injured while serving in Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. To be eligible for emergency financial relief or other forms of aid, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • A service-connected injury occurring in theater in either Iraq or Afghanistan;
  • A disability rating assigned by the Department of Defense or the Department of Veterans Affairs of 30 percent or greater from a single, sustained injury;
  • Currently experiencing severe financial hardship;
  • Completion of a Coalition to Salute America's Heroes aid application and timely submission supporting documentation as requested; and
  • Completion of a phone interview with a Coalition to Salute America's Heroes case manager.

Provide support, financial and emergency assistance for our deployed Active Duty and Reserve Armed Forces, veterans of OIF and OEF, and their families. Through a vast network of non-profit and state veterans organizations, we will immediately put you in touch with a volunteer veteran who will exclusively work with you on your problem.

National Guard Financial Management Awareness Program (FMAP)
The program helps National Guard members and their spouses improve their financial preparedness by providing free resources and encouraging sound financial practices.

The Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society is to provide, in partnership with the Navy and Marine Corps, financial, educational, and other assistance to members of the Naval Services of the United States, eligible family members, and survivors when in need. The Society provides financial assistance to eligible recipients in the form of interest-free loans and grants to meet emergency needs and needs-based scholarships and interest-free loans for educational purposes. In addition, the Society offers money management food lockers
stocked with limited quantities of essential items, packed to provide nutritionally-balanced meals, Layette Program designed to help new, or prospective, parents learn about the impact that a new baby can have on the financial situation of the family unit. Through a program of preventive education, clients learn about variations in pay and increased expenses, common consumer pressures targeted to new parents, and entitlements available through both government and private sources. Thrift Shops enable servicemembers and their families to purchase used clothing, uniforms, and household items at a nominal cost. Visiting Nurse Program - Visiting Nurse is available to make hospital or home visits to eligible clients in the interest of improving their quality of life by promoting understanding of information about the individual's health issues. Visits are frequently made to new mothers and infants, to patients recovering from surgery, and to patients with chronic health problems. The Visiting Nurse will see patients of any age.
 

The Society can help:

  • Active duty and retired active and reserve component Navy and Marine Corps personnel
  • Eligible family members of the personnel listed above to include active and reserve component personnel who died on active duty or in a retired status
  • Reservists on extended active duty greater than 30 days
  • Indigent mothers (65 years or older) of deceased servicemembers who have limited resources and no family to provide for their welfare
  • Ex-spouses "20-20-20" (unremarried former spouses whose marriage to a servicemember lasted for at least 20 years while the servicemember was on active duty)
Partners in Care

Partners in Care congregations now number 72 and are located across Maryland in all 23 counties and Baltimore City ready to provide support to Guard members and their families in times of crisis or need. Chaplains, Family Assistance Center Personnel, and Unit readiness staff can refer a Soldier, Airman, or family member to a near-by congregation that will then offer support free of charge, regardless of religious affiliation, and with no further obligation.

Provide emergency assistance to troops, families, and returning wounded warriors. Programs include emergency aid (food, baby care items, vehicle donation and repair), furniture program (donate household and baby furniture, working-order appliances), computer program (allow children and spouses to stay in touch with loved ones), financial assistance (for crises such as illness, homelessness, and death), and moving (provide physical labor for families when a service member is deployed). Many programs are open to all active military families, although some are restricted to military families coping with deployment and injury recovery (from trauma through successful transition back to civilian life).
Rebuild Hope
National network that "connects" donors to beneficiaries and helps seriously wounded current-era veterans and their families overcome short term financial problems as they strive to build healthy and stable civilian lives by helping them develop realistic budgets and by offering complimentary counseling and referral services.

Can give a one-time grant up to $2,500 for qualifying service members and their families experiencing financial hardship. Service member has to be active duty or have been discharged from active duty within 36 months prior to applying. Dependents are also eligible to apply.
