Each
VA Medical Center has a Healthcare for Homeless Veterans Clinic.
Services offered are very similiar between hospitals. At the Washington
DC Medical Center, located at 50 Irving Street, NW, the homeless
clinic is available for consultation on a walk in basis Monday
through Friday from 10:00am to 2:00pm. The Washington DC Homeless
Clinic provides assistance in entering transitional housing programs,
VA supported housing (VASH), which is permanent Section 8 housing
plus case management, as well as other housing assistance. Additionally,
the clinic can help a veteran enter the Compensated Work Therapy
program where a veteran works at the hospital on a paid basis
for six months. If a veteran needs help with substance abuse or
mental health education, the clinic can help the veteran enter
those programs which are held at the hospital.
The Washington
DC Hospital has a full time outreach worker, Mr. Ken Barnum, who
visits Montgomery County homeless shelters on a regular basis.
He visits Progress Place in Silver Spring on the 4th Thursday
of every month during the day from 9:30am to 10:30am as well
as on the 2nd Thursday of every month in the evening from 6:00pm
to 7:30pm. He visits the Gude Drive Men's Shelter in Rockville
on the last Tuesday of every month in the evening from 7:00pm
to 8:00pm. Mr. Barnum conducts the walk in clinic at the Washington
DC Hospital every Wedensday.
There
are many services available to assist homeless veterans, please
come in and learn more at any nearby VA medical center.
