Provide coverage
for unmarried surviving spouses and children of veterans who:
- died of
a service-connected disability, or
- were permanently
and totally disabled due to a service-connected disability at
the time of death, or
- died in
service in the line of duty, and the dependents are not eligible
for Department of Defense TRICARE benefits.

Restoration
of Entitlement: Entitlement may be restored for a surviving spouse
who remarried after the veteran's death if the remarriage ended
in death, divorce, or annulment. A surviving spouse that remarries
at age 57 or older, or at age 55 or older for CHAMPVA entitlement,
generally retains entitlement to DIC, home loan guaranty, and
education and training benefits.

Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services is awarding
up to $125,000.00 to the surviving spouse, children, dependent
parents, or estate of a Maryland resident who is killed in action
in Afghanistan or its contiguous airspace or Iraq or its contiguous
waters or airspace. The beneficiary, or an individual or agency
applying on behalf of the beneficiary, must submit a letter of application
to the above address. Call for list of documents that are required. |

| Assist
all veterans, their dependents, widows and orphans in working
with the VA and filing claims for the many benefits that are available.
You do not need to be a member to seek assistance. Provide veterans'
benefits experts at various veterans administration regional offices,
hospitals, vet centers, and state and county veteran facilities.
Process veterans' claims for compensation, pension, medical care,
education, job training, employment, veterans preference, housing,
death and burial benefits. Educate veterans on their benefits and
entitlements. Provide quality and professional representation for
veterans whose benefits have been denied at the local VA regional
office. |

Spouse Career Advancement Accounts (MyCAA) |
| Program
provides up to $6,000 of financial assistance for military spouses
who are pursuing licenses, certificates or degree programs leading
to employment in Portable Career fields. Eligible spouses can establish
a MyCAA Account by visiting the MyCAA website. Spouses of DoD Active
Duty members and activated members of the National Guard and Reserve
Components are eligible. |

A property
tax exemption is available to the following individuals, for their
primary residence located in the State of Maryland:
- surviving
spouse of active duty military personnel who died in the line
of duty
- surviving
spouse of a totally disabled veteran
- a spouse
who receives the dependency and indemnity compensation

| Survivors'
and Dependents ' Educational Assistance Program (DEA) - U.S. Department
of Veterans Affairs |

Dependent's
Educational Assistance provides education and training opportunities
to eligible dependents of certain veterans. The program offers
up to 45 months of education benefits. These benefits may be used
for degree and certificate programs, apprenticeship, and on-the-job
training. If you are a spouse, you may take a correspondence course.
If you are a son or daughter and wish to receive benefits for
attending school or job training, you must be between the ages
of 18 and 26. If you are a spouse, benefits end 10 years from
the date VA finds you eligible or from the date of death of the
veteran.
Eligibility requirements - You must be the
son, daughter, or spouse of:
- A veteran
who died or is permanently and totally disabled as the result
of a service-connected disability. The disability must arise
out of active service in the Armed Forces.
- A veteran
who died from any cause while such service-connected disability
was in existence.
- A servicemember
missing in action or captured in line of duty by a hostile force.
- A servicemember
forcibly detained or interned in line of duty by a foreign government
or power.
- A servicemember
who is hospitalized or receiving outpatient treatment for a
service connected permanent and total disability and is likely
to be discharged for that disability.
Obtain and
complete VA
Form 22-5490, Application for Survivors' and Dependents' Educational
Assistance. Send it to the VA
regional office with jurisdiction over the State
where you will train. If you are a son or daughter, under legal
age, a parent or guardian must sign the application. For more

Services include a national network of peer-based emotional support,

suitable jobs. Services may include:
- comprehensive
rehabilitation evaluation to determine abilities, skills, interests,
and needs;
- vocational
counseling and rehabilitation planning;
- employment
services such as job-seeking skills, resume development, and other
work readiness assistance;
- assistance
finding and keeping a job, including the use of special employer
incentives;
- training
such as On the Job Training, apprenticeships, and non-paid work
experiences, if needed;
- post-secondary
training at a college, vocational, technical or business school,
if needed;
- supportive
rehabilitation services including case management, counseling
and referral;
- and independent
living services.

program is available to eligible survivors while pursuing a program
of education or training under Survivors' and Dependents' Educational
Assistance (DEA). If you're a full-time
or 3/4-time student in a college degree program, or a vocational
or professional program, you can "earn while you learn" with a VA
work-study allowance. For forms and information, call your

local representative, or Reserve Education and Incentive Officers.
