Mediation can provide valuable assistance to reintegrate returning Maryland veterans back into their families and communities. According to Pentagon data, nearly half of returning National Guard soldiers report some challenges, such as alcohol and/or drug abuse, excessive anger, sleeplessness and conflict with family members and coworkers. There are additional challenges for service members who have been severely wounded and face long and arduous recovery periods. That and the stress of combat as well as multiple deployments also create issues for service members, their families and employers. Mediation is available at no cost and at a time and place convenient to participants through Community Mediation Centers located throughout Maryland.
