A Guide for Parents: These are the shots
your baby needs
Birth: 1 Hep-B (0-2 months)
1-2 months: 1 Hep-B
2 months: DTaP (DTP), Hib,
Polio
4 months: DTaP (DTP), Hib,
Polio
6 months: DTaP (DTP), 2 Hib,
1 Hep-B (6-18 months)
12 months: 1 MMR (12-15 months),
1 Hib (12-15 months), 1,3 Polio (12-18 months), 1 Var
15 months: 1,4 DTaP (DTP)
(12-18 months)
Check with your clinic to make sure your
baby is getting immunized on time. And make sure you
ask your clinic to give you a record card with all the
dates of your babys shots.
Hep-B: protects against hepatitis
B, a serious liver disease
DTaP: protects against diphtheria, tetanus, and
pertussis (whooping cough)
Hib: protects against Haemophilus influenzae
type B
Polio: inactivated (injected) vaccine (IPV) or
oral vaccine (OPV) protects against polio
MMR: protects against measles, mumps, and rubella
(German measles)
Var: varicella zoster vaccine protects against chickenpox
Depending on the brand of Hib vaccine
used for the 1st and 2nd doses,
a dose at 6 months of age may not be needed.
If an all-OPV schedule is used, the 3rd
dose may be given at 6-18 months.
May be given as early as 12 months if
6 months have elapsed since the previous dose and if
the child might not return by 18 months of age.
