Immunizations for Babies
A Guide for Parents: These are the shots your baby needs

Birth:  1 Hep-B (0-2 months)

1-2 months:  1 Hep-B

2 months:  DTaP (DTP), Hib, Polio

4 months:  DTaP (DTP), Hib, Polio

6 months:  DTaP (DTP), 2 Hib, 1 Hep-B (6-18 months)

12 months:  1 MMR (12-15 months), 1 Hib (12-15 months), 1,3 Polio (12-18 months), 1 Var

15 months:  1,4 DTaP (DTP) (12-18 months)

Check with your clinic to make sure your baby is getting immunized on time. And make sure you ask your clinic to give you a record card with all the dates of your baby’s shots.

Hep-B:  protects against hepatitis B, a serious liver disease

DTaP:  protects against diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis (whooping cough)

Hib:  protects against Haemophilus influenzae type B

Polio:  inactivated (injected) vaccine (IPV) or oral vaccine (OPV) protects against polio

MMR:  protects against measles, mumps, and rubella (German measles)

Var: varicella zoster vaccine protects against chickenpox

Depending on the brand of Hib vaccine used for the 1st and 2nd doses, a dose at 6 months of age may not be needed.

If an all-OPV schedule is used, the 3rd dose may be given at 6-18 months.

May be given as early as 12 months if 6 months have elapsed since the previous dose and if the child might not return by 18 months of age.
