    Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett recently honored the Montgomery College Women’s Soccer team, The Lady Knights, for their historic victory in winning their first National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III national title with a 4-0 victory over Monroe Community College of New York.  The team finished the year with an impressive 17-3 record, outscoring their opponents 65-15.  Coach Kelly Wakeman (holding the proclamation with Leggett) was named the NJCAA Division III Soccer Coach of the Year.

    Milken Award Winner… Gaithersburg Middle School English teacher Madeline Hanington was recognized by the Montgomery County Council on Jan. 31 for winning a prestigious Milken Award, which is considered one of the top national honors for teachers. At the ceremonies in Rockville were, left to right: Councilmembers Craig Rice and Phil Andrews, Ms. Hanington, Gaithersburg Middle School Principal Carol Godard and Councilmember Valerie Ervin.

    Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett participated in a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Animal Services and Adoption Center, which will be operated by the Police Department’s Animal Services Division and is expected to open in the summer of 2013.
