NEA Big Read

Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) has received a National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Big Read grant in partnership with the Friends of the Library, Montgomery County (FOLMC), Montgomery Community Media, and the Gaithersburg Book Festival. The Big Read goal is to revitalize the role of literature in American culture and spread the transformative power of literature into lives. NEA Big Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest.

Dinaw Mengestu

Contemporary Conversations

Award-winning author and MacArthur Foundation Fellow, Dinaw Mengestu will speak about his inspiration for his work The Beautiful Things That Heaven Bears and his experiences as an Ethiopian immigrant living between different cultures and worlds. Mr. Mengestu is also the author of How to Read the Air and All Our Names; his journalism and fiction have appeared in Harper’s Magazine, Granta, Rolling Stone, The New Yorker, and The Wall Street Journal. Sponsored by Friends of the Library, Montgomery County, and Friends of the Library, Silver Spring Chapter.
