Download and listen to audio eBooks on your computer or MP3 player!

Audio eBooks are digital versions of audio books that you can download and listen to on your computer or a portable listening device such as an MP3 player.

We now offer two collections of Audio eBooks from:

Note: Only the MP3-format audio eBooks from the Maryland Digital eLibrary Consortium and from NetLibrary are compatible with Macintosh computers and with iPods.

What titles are available?

Maryland Digital eLibrary Consortium

Audiobooks Core Collection: 2300+ adult, children's, and young adult fiction and nonfiction titles, book club favorites, and classics. New titles are added monthly.

Pimsleur Language Series Collection: 39 languages available in beginner and intermediate lessons.

CEV Holy Bible


The Collection includes 1500+ fiction and nonfiction titles. New titles are added monthly.

How do I search for audio eBooks?

Follow the link to netLibrary.

On the NetLibrary page, click on the link to the eAudioBooks Center in the righthand column.

You can do a keyword search or list all audio book titles.


Follow the link to the Maryland Digital eLibrary Consortium.

You can browse the collection or do a keyword search. Digital Audio titles will be indicated by “Overdrive Audio Book”.


Do I need a password?

You will need a Montgomery County library card and a username and password to borrow an audio eBook; however you can browse/search the collection without one.

You can set up your NetLibrary account on your first visit to the site under “Create a Free Account”.

What type of software do I need?

You can choose to download the optional free NetLibrary Media Center software, which allows you to transfer titles directly to an MP3 player. Mac users will not be able to use this software, but they can still download titles from NetLibrary, so long as they are in MP3 and not WMA format.

You must download the Overdrive Media Console, which comes in versions for both Windows-based PC's and Macs. Mac users will be able to download titles in MP3 but not WMA format.


What type of Internet Connection do I need?

High Speed Cable or DSL is recommended for both services.

Where can I listen to an audio eBook?

You may listen on your computer or on a MP3 player.

Download it to your computer and then transfer it to your MP3 player. With optional NetLibrary Media Center software, you can download directly to your MP3 player.

Audio eBooks cannot be downloaded on the libraries' computers.


You may listen on your computer, on a CD (when available), or on a MP3 player.

Download it to your computer, then you can transfer/burn it to a CD or MP3 player using the Overdrive Media Console and Windows Media Player.

Audio eBooks cannot be downloaded on the libraries' computers.


What portable listening devices/MP3 players can I use?

Audio eBooks in MP3 format (as opposed to WMA format) can be transferred to iPods.

We recommend you use a player with bookmarking capability.

How many can I check out?

You may borrow a maximum of 10 titles at one time.


You may borrow a maximum of 4 titles at one time. This total includes both print eBooks and audio eBooks.


Can I renew an audio book?

Audio eBooks may be renewed one time for an additional 3 weeks by logging into your NetLibrary account.


Your items cannot be renewed, but you can check them out again if they are available when your checkout expires.


How long can I borrow an audio eBook?

You may borrow an audio eBook for 21 days.


You may borrow an audio eBook for 7 days or for 14 days.


Do I need to manually return audio books when the check out period has expired?

Audio eBooks automatically expire at the end of the borrowing period. You will be unable to open the audio eBook after the borrowing period.

Can I place holds?

No holds are necessary. There are unlimited copies of each title available to download.


Yes, you can place up to 10 holds at a time. When a hold is available, you will receive an email notice.

No holds are necessary for Always Available Audio eBooks. There are unlimited copies of each title available to download
