| The Rockville Library is included
among “15 Dazzling Modern
Library Designs” from around the world featured on WebUrbanist.com,
an architectural, art and design web site that publishes multiple
articles each week “on all things urban.” According to the introduction, “The word ‘library’ doesn’t
immediately conjure up a sense of coolness, but these libraries
are much more than just book storage depots. …libraries can
be amazing places, so why shouldn’t they look the part?” The
15 libraries chosen “prove that books can be very cool,” it
concludes.
Rockville was specifically cited for “Cool Highlights [that]
include an ethereal starry night ceiling and a floating staircase.” Another
photo showed the custom Lees carpeting that was used throughout
the building. According to the photo caption, the fine detail of
the carpeting earned a 2006 Design Award from Commercial Carpets
of America (CCA).
