Referrals for Legal Assistance

The following four referral programs are from the Montgomery County Bar Association.

Lawyer Referral, 301 279-9100
Refers any caller for initial consultation & referral at a fee set by the Bar Association. They connect caller, via conference call, directly with an attorney. After initial consultation, the caller & attorney work out further representation, costs, etc .

Lawyer Referral Reduced Fee Program, 301 279-9100
Refers low-income callers for reduced cost initial consultation & referral at a fee set by the Bar Assoc. They connect caller, via conference call, directly with an attorney willing to offer a reduced fee. After consultation, the caller & attorney work out further representation, costs, etc. Hours: Monday – Friday, 9:00 am to 12:00 noon & 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.

Pro Bono Program, 301 424-7651
Provides free legal representation to low income Mont. Co. residents. Accepts most types of civil cases. Fee-generating cases are not accepted. Apply by telephone.

Legal Clinics of the Pro Bono Program

Free consultation with a lawyer for advice on civil matters for residents of Montgomery County. Do not accept fee-generating cases. Clinics held at:

Legal Aid Bureau

Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service

Provides free or reduced fee representation to low-income individuals and non-profits throughout Maryland who have civil legal problems.

Conflict Resolution Center of Montgomery County

Trained volunteers provide free mediation. Will mediate wide variety of issues.

Family Law

In cases of spousal abuse, the Montgomery County Crisis Center has counseling and assistance. Call 240 777-4000, 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

Attorneys assist people to represent themselves in domestic cases.

Child Support Enforcement Office

Assists custodial parents in Montgomery County to obtain child support from absent parents.

Child Welfare Services

Has a wealth of information on Family Law issues and is especially valuable for those representing themselves in divorce cases. Includes an easy-to-use online tool for completing required forms when you are seeking custody, visitation, or child support..
