Troubleshooting Tips — Creating a NetLibrary Account

NetLibrary Error MessageDid you get an error message?

"If you have an account, please log in. If you are a patron of a participating library and do not have an account, please contact your library for information on gaining access."

Troubleshooting Tips

NetLibrary uses referring url technology to authenticate library users and requires that referring URL's be accepted by firewall and security software. This is to ensure that only Montgomery County Public Libraries' users have access to NetLibrary. If you have a firewall, such as Norton, or other security software on your machine, it may block this information from being sent to NetLibrary's website, and NetLibrary is unable to tell that you are a valid user.

Some adjustments in your firewall settings might be necessary. Most firewall software will allow you to set up trusted sites. Once you have made the changes to your firewall, you should be able to access the site.

If you have Norton software, please visit this page to find out more:

More troubleshooting tips

If you are unable to create an account after using our troubleshooting tips, here are some other options.

You can:

  • Visit one of our branches and create your own account on a computer at the library. You will then be able to login from home.

  • Call Ask-a-Librarian Phone Reference at 240-777-0001 to create your account. Please note that the librarian will ask you for your library card number, a username, password, and e-mail address to register.
