Your Library Card

You can borrow books, cassette tapes, books on tape, compact disc and videos with your library card! You can keep them for three weeks and return them to any County library. Don't be late, though. You have to pay for every extra day you keep them. Get Your Own Library Card.
It's Free! It's Easy! There's no age limit! Here's what to do:

  1. Fill out an application form at your local library.
  2. Show us an official paper with your name and present address on it -- like a report card or student ID.

OR Have your parent or guardian show us a document with their name and present address on it.

That's all you have to do! You can check out books right away with your new library card.

**Don't worry if you can't show us a current ID. Go ahead and fill out an application form. We'll mail your library card to you. You can check out books as soon as you receive your card.

Stuff to know about your library card

  • Bring your library card with you whenever you visit the library.
  • You may borrow books, cassette tapes, books on tape, cd's, and videos. (From now on we'llcall the things you borrow ITEMS.)
  • You may borrow 50 items. If you have 50 items checked out, you won't be able to borrow any more until you bring some back.
  • You may keep a borrowed item for three weeks. You must return it by the date stamped onthe back of the item (DUE DATE).
  • You may keep things longer than three weeks if you renew them (ask to keep them threemore weeks). Bring the items to the library and tell us you want to renew them. Or renew them on the telephone by calling the Telephone Renewal Line at 240-777-0007. There is a limit of two renewals per item. If anyone is on a waiting list for the book, then you won't be able to renew it.
  • If you keep an item longer than three weeks (and you didn't renew it), you have to pay for every extra day you keep it. The money you pay is called a FINE. Here's how much you have to pay:
Materials Daily Maximum
Materials from the Adult Collection .35 $15.00
Materials from the Juvenile and Young Adult Collection .10 $5.00
Mass Market Paperbacks from the Juvenile and Young Adult Collection .10 $2.50
All Videos in the Children's Collection .25 $5.00
  • If you lose or damage an item, you will have to pay to replace it.
  • If you lose your library card, you have to pay $1.00 to get a new one.

The library can not tell anyone what you have borrowed. We can't even tell your parents. That's the law. We can only tell you. If you need help remembering what you have borrowed, ask us to print out a list for you.
