The Pro Se Project is a FREE walk-in clinic, staffed by attorneys and paralegals, which provides either general legal information, or limited legal advice, in family law matters such as divorce, custody, visitation, and child support.Whether a client receives advice or information will depend on the client's needs, and eligibility under our income guidelines. The Pro Se Project is designed to assist individuals who want to represent themselves in SIMPLE family matters only. Individuals with contested or complex cases should retain their own attorneys. If a client wishes to represent his or herself in a family law matter, the Pro Se Project can help determine which family law forms are the most appropriate, help with the completion of the forms, and provide information on how to navigate the system, and the law in general. If the family law matter is too complex, or otherwise inappropriate for our project (e.g. domestic violence, exceptions, emergency petitions, guardianships, contested matters, or complex property or support issues), we will attempt to refer the client an appropriate agency or program. The Pro Se Project is not a substitute for an attorney.
Domestic Relations Forms are available for free at the Family Window (Room 107), on the first floor of the courthouse. They are also available online through the Family Services Program web site.
