County Seeks Volunteers for
Abused Persons Program

The Abused Persons Program of Montgomery County's Department of Health and Human Services is seeking volunteers to work with victims of domestic violence who are seeking legal remedies for protection.

Volunteers are being recruited to fulfill the two following roles:

  • Court Companions - individuals who accompany clients to civil and criminal court proceedings and offer support and information to victims throughout the legal process; and
  • Victim Assistants - individuals who work in the courthouse, providing information and help with safety planning for domestic violence victims seeking court-ordered relief.

Volunteers, who are required to attend a 40-hour training course, must commit to volunteer at least one day a week and are expected to serve for at least one year.

To apply or for more information, call the Abused Persons Program at 240-777-4210. There is a special need for bilingual volunteers.
