Duncan Seeks Applicants for
Commission on Landlord-Tenant Affairs
Montgomery County Executive Douglas M. Duncan is seeking applicants to fill three categories of vacancies on the Montgomery County Commission on Landlord-Tenant Affairs: public-at-large, landlord, and tenant representatives. The fifteen-member commission hears landlord-tenant disputes and recommends legislation on multi-family and single-family housing issues.
All members must be Montgomery County residents, and they are required to file an annual confidential financial disclosure statement. A confidential financial disclosure statement must be submitted with each application.
Public-at-large representatives must not be qualified for appointment as either a landlord or a tenant. The three vacancies are: two full-term vacancies expiring in June 2003 and one alternate vacancy expiring in June 2003.
Tenant representatives must be tenants of a residential rental facility in Montgomery County or must be nominated by an organization that represents tenants of residential rental facilities in Montgomery County. Three vacancies are: one full-term vacancy and one alternate vacancy expiring in June 2003; and one partial-term vacancy expiring in June 2002.
Landlord representatives must be the owner, the owner's agent or lessor of residential property in Montgomery County and should be nominated by an organization that represents landlords. There are two full-term vacancies expiring in June 2003.
Meetings of the full Commission are held the first Tuesday evening of each month in Rockville. In addition, members are expected to serve on panels which hear cases involving landlord-tenant disputes. Members serve without compensation.
Interested citizens should write by April 7 to County Executive Douglas M. Duncan at the Executive Office Building, 101 Monroe Street, Rockville, Maryland 20850. A letter and brief resume, including work and home phone numbers should be included. Nomination letters may be included with the application or mailed separately. To receive a confidential financial disclosure statement that is required to be completed and submitted with each application, please call 240-777-2528 and leave your name and complete mailing address.
Members of County boards, committees, and commissions may not serve on more than one such group at a time. The Executive's appointments are subject to confirmation by the County Council. Applications of those selected for appointment are made public as part of the confirmation process.
