Conducts Anniversary
Logo Contest in Schools
Local high school students have been invited to play a major role in the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Montgomery County Department of Public Libraries by participating in a contest to design a new logo for the department.
Entries, which will support the anniversary theme of "Finding Your Past, Present and Future at the Montgomery County Public Libraries," may be submitted by any high school student in the County, including those attending private schools and being home schooled.
"We felt that our anniversary celebration was an appropriate time to reinforce the connection between libraries and our youth," said Harriet Henderson, director of the Montgomery County Department of Public Libraries. "What better way to emphasize the role that the local library can play in the education of our young people than to have them submit designs for a new, permanent logo."
Cash prizes, provided by the Friends of the Library, are $500 for first prize and $200 for second.
The deadline for submissions is March 1. Judging will begin on March 15, and the winners will be announced at a reception marking National Library Week in April.
In addition to information distributed to students through Montgomery County public and private schools, the logo contest rules are available at all local public libraries and on the Library's web site at www.mont.lib.md.us/prlogo.html.
