Duncan Seeks Applicants for
Eastern Area Recreation Advisory Board

County Executive Douglas M. Duncan is seeking applicants to fill seven full-term vacancies and one partial alternate vacancy on the Eastern Area Recreation Advisory Board. Two of the vacancies are for alternate positions. Six incumbents are eligible to apply for reappointment. This board advises the County Executive, County Council, and the Department of Recreation on regional recreation needs, encourages the development of desirable parks and recreational opportunities, and advises and makes recommendations to appropriate officials on matters concerning budgets, recreation programs, services, and facilities.

The board is composed of 12 regular members and three alternates. Alternates serve in place of an absent member and assume a regular member's position of there is a resignation. Members must reside in the eastern area of Montgomery County (Silver Spring, Takoma Park, Kensington, Garrett Park, Wheaton, Burtonsville, Colesville). Members appointed to full terms serve for three years without compensation. Meetings are usually held the second Wednesday evening of the month in Silver Spring.

Interested residents should apply by April 28 to County Executive Douglas M. Duncan at the Executive Office Building, 101 Monroe Street, Rockville, MD 20850. A letter and brief resume, including work and home phone numbers, should be enclosed. Individuals representing special populations, minorities, and other special interest groups are encouraged to apply. Members of County boards, committees and commissions may not serve on more than one such group at a time.

Duncan's appointments are subject to confirmation by the County Council. Applications of those selected for appointment are made public as part of the confirmation process.
