Car Seat Safety Check
Scheduled for April 29

A free car seat check will be held on Saturday, April 29 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Fitzgerald's Wheaton Dodge, located at Georgia Avenue and Veirs Mill Road. Inspections will be conducted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Trained safety specialists will check car seats for proper installation, age/size appropriateness and to determine if the seats have been recalled or visibly damaged. According to the National Safe Kids Campaign, car seats, when correctly installed and used, are extremely effective in saving children's lives in automobile crashes, reducing the risk of death by as much as 71 percent. National studies, however, have found that more than 80 percent of car seats are installed or used incorrectly.

The car seat check is sponsored by Adventist Healthcare, CASA of Maryland, Fitzgerald Automotive, the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Holy Cross Hospital, the Institute for Family Development, the Montgomery County SAFE KIDS Coalition, the National Hispanic Health Coalition, Radio America, Spanish Catholic Center and Telemundo.
