Long Branch Library
To Close for Renovation;
Public Invited to Closing Activities
The Long Branch Community Library will close for major renovations that will take approximately one year, starting April 29 at 5 p.m. The public is invited to attend special closing-day activities from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tours of the new bookmobile, which will serve the community throughout the year, will also be offered. Entertainment and refreshments will be provided by The Long Branch Library Advisory Committee and Friends of the Library.
Specific renovations include fixing major water problems, completing the installation of the heating/cooling/ventilation system, lighting, and ceilings, along with redesigning spaces for a quiet study room, a computer lab and three tutor/study rooms. New circulation and information desks, as well as public and staff furniture are also included in the renovations.
Beginning in early May, a new bookmobile purchased to provide service to the Long Branch community while the library is closed will start operations. The 36-foot bookmobile -- four feet longer than the current bookmobile -- will hold 4,000 items.
The bookmobile will be stationed at the corner of Arliss Street and Flower Avenue until mid-May when it will move to various locations throughout the Long Branch community.
Children's story times will continue on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. at the Long Branch Community Center, 8700 Piney Branch Road, Silver Spring.
