Duncan Seeks Applicants for
Northern Area Recreation Advisory Board
County Executive Douglas M. Duncan is seeking applicants to fill nine vacancies including three alternate positions on the Northern Area Recreation Advisory Board. One vacancy is for a partial term expiring in July 2001. Five incumbents are eligible to apply for reappointment.
This board advises the County Executive, County Council, and the Department of Recreation on regional recreation needs, encourages the development of desirable parks and recreational opportunities, and advises and makes recommendations to appropriate officials on matters concerning budgets, recreation programs, services, and facilities.
The board is composed of 12 regular members and three alternates. Alternates serve in place of an absent member and assume a regular member's position of there is a resignation. Members must reside in the northern area of Montgomery County (Greater Gaithersburg, Germantown, Olney, Poolesville, and other upper Montgomery County communities). Residents who live within the city limits of Rockville, Gaithersburg or Washington Grove are not eligible for appointment. Members serve three-year terms without compensation. Meetings are usually held the third Wednesday of the month in Germantown.
Interested residents should apply by May 12 to County Executive Douglas M. Duncan at the Executive Office Building, 101 Monroe Street, Rockville, MD 20850. A letter and brief resume, including work and home phone numbers, should be enclosed. Individuals representing special populations, minorities, and other special interest groups are encouraged to apply. Members of County boards, committees and commissions may not serve on more than one such group at a time.
Duncan's appointments are subject to confirmation by the County Council. Applications of those selected for appointment are made public as part of the confirmation process.
