Three Montgomery County Schools Selected as
Maryland Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence

Montgomery County Executive Douglas M. Duncan joins State Superintendent of Schools Nancy S. Grasmick and members of the Maryland State Board of Education in honoring 10 public middle and high schools at the Year 2000 Maryland Blue Ribbon Schools Gala on Thursday, April 27 at 6 p.m. The event is being held at Martin's West in Baltimore.

Three of the honored schools are in Montgomery County and include Damascus, Richard Montgomery and Paint Branch high schools. The Maryland Blue Ribbon Awards recognize achievements for schools in the following areas: student performance, student focused instruction, school organization, challenging standards and curriculum, active teaching and learning, parent and community involvement, professional development opportunities, and leadership and decision making. The gala is the largest education event in Maryland, with more than 1,300 attendees, including elected officials, corporate partners, teachers, parents and students.

"A significant factor contributing to the quality of life in Montgomery County is the performance of our public schools," said Duncan. "To be recognized with these awards is an honor for these schools and a tribute to the hard work and dedication of the students, teachers, administrators and parents. We will continue to invest in our public school system to make it one of the best, not only in the state, but in the country."
