Duncan Seeks Applicants for Bethesda Urban
Partnership Board of Directors

County Executive Douglas M. Duncan and the Montgomery County Council are seeking applicants to fill four vacancies on the Bethesda Urban Partnership Board of Directors. The Bethesda Urban Partnership is responsible for the maintenance of streetscape and streetscape amenities; the promotion and organization of promotional activities; and other similar activities. The 11-member Board of Directors directs all aspects of the urban district program and links the community in the provision of urban district services.

Of the four vacancies, the Executive will appoint one optional method developer representative, one small business representative, and one representative nominated by the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Chamber of Commerce. He will also appoint a citizen who resides in a residential community outside of, but in close proximity to, the urban district from a list of three candidates recommended by the County Council. Two incumbents are eligible to apply for reappointment.

The eleven-member Board includes the following: two members nominated by the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Chamber of Commerce; three members who are, or represent, owners of an optional method development; one member who is an owner, partner, proprietor, or corporate officer of a small business; one member who resides in a residential community within the Bethesda-Chevy Chase planning area and is nominated by the Western Montgomery County Citizens Advisory Board; and one member who is a resident member of the Western Montgomery County Citizens Advisory Board and is recommended by the board; one residential representative from an adjacent neighborhood; one residential representative who lives within the Urban District; and one ex-officio, non-voting County Executive representative.

The board currently meets the third Tuesday of every month at 7:45 a.m. Members serve three-year terms without compensation.

Interested citizens should apply in writing by July 7 to County Executive Douglas M. Duncan at the Executive Office Building, 101 Monroe St., Rockville, MD 20850. A brief resume including home and work telephone numbers should be included. Those applying for reappointment must indicate their current job and employer in their letter or enclose another resume. Members of County boards, committees and commissions may not serve on more than one such group at a time.

Duncan's appointments are subject to confirmation by the County Council. Applications of those selected for appointment are made public as part of the confirmation process.
