Road closings announced
In Silver Spring
For Tastee Diner Move

To accommodate the moving of the Tastee Diner on Saturday, June 17, the County Department of Public Works and Transportation has announced the following road closures in downtown Silver Spring:

  • Southbound Georgia Avenue between Spring Street and Wayne Avenue will be shutdown from approximately 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. Motorists coming southbound on Georgia Avenue are advised to turn either left or right at Spring Street to make their way beyond the closure.

  • Motorists westbound on Colesville Road will only be allowed to turn right onto northbound Georgia. Eastbound motorists on Colesville should use Second Avenue/Wayne Avenue to avoid the closure at Georgia Avenue, between 9:30 and 11 a.m.

  • Cameron Street - from Georgia to Ramsey Avenue -- will be closed from 9:30 a.m. until late afternoon.

A portion of the historic Tastee Diner is being moved from its location in the 8500 block of Georgia Avenue to its new home on Cameron Street to make way for the building of the Discovery Communications headquarters complex.

Public parking garages in the vicinity will be open and accessible to motorists during the event.
