HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
More than 1,300 Montgomery County public and private high school students registered to vote during the recent Annual High School Voter Registration Drive.
The Montgomery County Board of Elections, in cooperation with the Board of Education, registered students at 21 public and five private high schools in the County, May 1 - 3. This drive was held in conjunction with the election for the student representative on the Board of Education.
Students who served as registrars for the participating schools were trained by election officials on how to register voters. Individual schools then conducted their own drives.
Party distribution of the registered students included 637 Democrats, 244 Republicans, 486 who declined to affiliate with a party, and 17 Libertarians.
Since 1971, the annual high school drive has registered 104,357 voters in the County.
Students who will reach their eighteenth birthday by November 7, 2000 are eligible to register to vote. For more information, call the Board of Elections at 240-777-VOTE or 240-777-8500, or visit the web site at www.co.mo.md.us/services/elections.
