Two Car Seat Safety Checks
Scheduled in July

Montgomery County is sponsoring two free car seat checks during the month of July. The first one is being sponsored by Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services and will be held on Thursday, July 13, from 1 to 4 p.m., at the Public Service Training Academy, 10025 Darnestown Road, Rockville. Montgomery County, Fitzgerald Automotive and the Montgomery County SAFE KIDS Coalition are sponsoring the second car seat check on Thursday, July 20, from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., at Fitzgerald's Auto Mall, 5501 Nicholson Lane, Rockville (across from White Flint Shopping Mall). Inspections will be conducted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Trained safety specialists will check car seats for proper installation, age/size appropriateness and to determine if the seats have been recalled or visibly damaged. According to the National Safe Kids Campaign, car seats, when correctly installed and used, are extremely effective in saving children's lives in automobile crashes, reducing the risk of death by as much as 71 percent. National studies, however, have found that more than 80 percent of car seats are installed or used incorrectly.
