NEW IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTS
FOR PRE- SCHOOLERS; COUNTY SPONSORS
'STOP THE POX' CLINIC

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: August 22, 2000

To help ensure that Montgomery County children entering pre-school programs this year receive the necessary immunizations, the County's Department of Health and Human Services will host a "STOP THE POX" Clinic on Thursday, September 7, 2000 from 5 until 7p.m. at the Dennis Avenue Health Center, 2000 Dennis Avenue, Silver Spring. There will be free immunizations, refreshments, entertainment, and storytime from Arthur's Chicken Pox Adventure, balloons and giveaways.

County students enrolled in 2000-2001 pre-school programs will be required to have the VARICELLA (Chicken Pox) and HEPATITIS B vaccine, in addition to Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis, Polio, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, and Haemophilus Influenza B (HIB).

Immunizations are also available from private physicians or County immunization clinics, which will be held at the following locations:

  • Germantown Health Center, 12900 Middlebrook Road, Germantown Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 9 to 11 a.m.

  • Piccard Drive Health Center, 1335 Piccard Drive, Rockville (Lower Level) Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1 to 3 p.m.

  • Silver Spring Health Center, 8630 Fenton Street (10th floor), Silver Spring Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays 8:15 to 10:15 a.m. and Wednesday, 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.

  • School Health Services Center, 4910 Macon Road, Rockville Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon For school aged children (5-18 years of age).

    Clinics are operated on a first-come, first-served basis, and are for Montgomery County residents, but no child will be turned away. A parent or designated adult must accompany children under the age of 18, and parents should bring their child's immunization records with them. Donations for immunizations are accepted, however, services are provided regardless of ability to pay.
