Community Focus Groups Scheduled To Discuss Wheaton Revitilization

COMMUNITY FOCUS GROUPS SCHEDULED
TO DISCUSS WHEATON REVITALIZATION

The public is invited to attend a series of focus groups designed to gather input and ideas on the future of Wheaton. Hosted by the Mid-County Services Center, the Wheaton Redevelopment Office, Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Westfield Inc. and the National Main Street Center, the focus groups will give interested individuals an opportunity to discuss how they currently use the downtown and to view slides and models of different architectural styles, building densities and uses.

Focus groups will be held on the following dates:

Monday, September 11 6:30 - 9:30 p.m.

Wednesday, September 13 7:30 - 10:30 a.m.

Friday, September 15 11 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Sunday, September 17 2 - 5:00 p.m.

Tuesday, September 19 1:30 - 4:30p.m. and 6:30 - 9:30 p.m.

In addition, special "Linkage" focus groups will provide input on ways of linking Westfield Shoppingtown/Wheaton (the former Wheaton Plaza) with downtown Wheaton.

"Linkage" focus groups will be held on the following dates:

Wednesday, September 13 6:30 - 9:30 p.m.

Friday, September 22 11 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

All focus groups will be held at the Wheaton Redevelopment Office, 11501 Georgia Avenue, Suite 103. Redevelopment Office staff will also conduct one-on-one interviews with retailers to gather their ideas and input.

At the conclusion of the focus groups and individual interviews, the Main Street group, along with M-NCPPC and County staff will synthesize the community's input in a series of architectural drawings and/or physical models of an "ideal" downtown.
