ALTERNATE ACCESSIBLE POLLING PLACES
FOR VOTERS WITH DISABILITIES

Registered voters who are elderly or disabled and reside in precincts where the polling place is not accessible because of structural barriers may be reassigned to an alternate accessible polling place. Maryland law permits reassignment if a barrier-free polling place is available in a precinct which has a ballot identical to the precinct in which the voter resides.

To qualify for reassignment to an accessible polling place for the Presidential General Election on November 7, 2000, a voter must submit a request in writing to the Board of Elections no later than 9 p.m. on October 13, 2000. Election officials urge that requests for reassignment be submitted as soon as possible.

To check the accessibility status of your polling place, call the Board of Elections at 240-777-8500.

If a satisfactory substitute-polling place is not available, or if a voter with a disability does not wish to be reassigned, voting by absentee ballot is an alternative. Applications for absentee ballots must be submitted to the Board of Elections by 5 p.m. on October 31, 2000, or not later than midnight if faxed.

For information on absentee voting, call the Absentee Voting Department, 240-777-8550, or the 24-Hour Absentee Voting Line, 240-777-8565, or go to the Board of Elections home page at www.co.mo.md.us/services/elections, and click on the link to "Absentee Ballot Application Is Online".
