Duncan Announces Opening of
Public Housing Family Waiting List
September 18 - 30
Montgomery County Executive Douglas Duncan announced today that the waiting list for two-, three-, and four-bedroom public housing will reopen on Monday, September 18, giving low- and moderate-income families an opportunity to apply for affordable housing managed by the County's Housing Opportunities Commission (HOC). The housing opportunities are located throughout Montgomery County in more than 100 communities. The list will remain open until Saturday, September 30.
"This is welcome news for families who are in need of low-cost rental housing in this community," said County Executive Douglas M. Duncan. "Providing additional affordable housing in Montgomery County is a priority, and we are working hard in this area to meet the needs of our residents."
Pre-application forms for the public housing program are available at all Montgomery County public libraries and Montgomery County Regional Services Centers, as well as at HOC offices, starting September 18. The forms will also be available for downloading on HOC's HOC Public Housing Waiting List Opens website: www.hocweb.org, beginning September 15. All applications must be mailed to HOC, and postmarked between September 18 and September 30.
HOC is targeting its public housing openings for families earning no more than half the annual median income. Although submission of an application does not guarantee housing or a place on the HOC waiting list, those families that are accepted into the program pay 30 percent of their adjusted income towards rent. In addition to families, public housing assists the elderly and persons with disabilities.
To be eligible, a family of two must earn no more than $32,250; a family of three must earn no more than $36,250; a family of four must earn no more than $40,300; a family of five, $43,500; a family of six, $46,750; a family of seven, no more than $49,950; and a family of eight must earn no more than $53,200.
HOC has earned a "high performer status" from HUD for the overall management of its 1,547 public housing units, located in multi-family developments; high-rise towers; and scattered site homes.
A special HOC telephone "hotline," providing information on the public housing waiting list, will begin operating on September 18. The phone number is 301-929-2341.
