Bilingual Latino educator, entertainer
To perform at Wheaton Regional Library

Noted bilingual educator, songwriter and performer, Jose Luis Orozco, will present a free musical program at the Wheaton Regional Library on September 30, beginning at l0:30 a.m.

Orozco, a native of Mexico, has entertained young audiences in this country, Mexico and Latin America with music, lullabies and folk songs. He is known for increasing children's awareness of Latino culture with songs that help teach the language and maintain traditions.

Some of Orozco's songs teach children to count their fingers and toes in Spanish. Others help teach body parts or the hours of a clock. He has recorded 14 CD's and written 14 bilingual songbooks. His books, "De Colores and other Latin American folk Songs for Children" and "Diez Deditos -Ten Little Fingers," have won national awards. His music has been featured in a number of films, video productions, and major educational publications.

The bilingual program is sponsored by the Montgomery County Friends of the Library, the American Library Association "Live @ the Library 2000," National Endowment for the Arts, Lila Wallace-Reader's Digest Fund, and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.

The Wheaton Regional Library is located at 11701 Georgia Avenue, at the corner of Arcola Avenue, between University Boulevard and Randolph Road. Transportation to the library is accessible through Metrobuses Y7 and Y8 from the Wheaton Metro and Metrobus Y8 from the Silver Spring Metro.
