County's Chief Administrative Officer
Installed as ICMA President

Montgomery County Chief Administrative Officer Bruce Romer was installed today as President of the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) for 2000-2001 in Cincinnati, Ohio, at the organization's 86th Annual Conference.

ICMA is a professional and educational organization, representing appointed managers and administrators in local governments throughout the world. The organization strives to strengthen the quality of local government through professional management. Comprised of more than 8,000 members, ICMA includes appointed administrators, assistants and department heads serving cities, counties, towns, villages and regional entities. Romer was chosen by the Board from among three finalists selected to serve as president for the coming year.

"It is indeed an honor to be selected by my peers to serve as ICMA president for the coming year," said Romer. "This is one of the highest honors that a member of the local government management profession can receive, and I look forward to serving in this capacity and accomplishing much during my term."

Appointed in January 1995 by County Executive Douglas M. Duncan to serve as Montgomery County's Chief Administrative Officer, Romer has more than 32 years of government management experience, including six years as the Rockville City Manager. In his position as Montgomery County's top appointed official, Romer oversees the day-to-day operations of the government and its workforce of approximately 7,000 employees.

"This is a well deserved honor for a person who has dedicated his career to providing outstanding public service," said Duncan. "During his term as president, I am confident that Bruce Romer will provide ICMA with the same high quality leadership that he consistently provides to the residents of Montgomery County."

Romer has been a member of ICMA for 32 years and has served as vice president for the past two years.
