African-American sociologist
To lead book discussion
At Gaithersburg Library

Dr. Joyce Lardner, author of "The Ties That Bind - Timeless Values for African-American Families," will discuss her book on October 4 at the Gaithersburg Regional Library, beginning at 7 p.m. The library is located at 18330 Montgomery Village Avenue.

In the recently released book, Dr. Lardner recalls the traditional values she learned as a child growing up with eight siblings in Mississippi. She identifies the 10 most important lessons for African Americans to pass on to their children and encourages parents not to lose sight of these values as they achieve professional and material success.

Dr. Lardner is a noted sociologist and commentator who was a former interim president, vice president for Academic Affairs and professor of Sociology at Howard University.

The program is sponsored by the Xi Sigma Omega chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
