Frederick County Warden Robert Green Named
To Lead New Montgomery Correctional Facility

Robert L. Green has been named warden of the new Montgomery County Correctional Facility under construction in Clarksburg, Maryland. Green, currently warden of the Frederick County Adult Detention Center, was named to the position by the director of the County's Department of Correction and Rehabilitation Arthur Wallenstein, following an extensive search that included applications from 33 correctional administrators from across the nation.

In his new position, Green will supervise a staff of more than 225 and an inmate population of approximately 700. His major task during the next 18 months will be to manage the opening of the new jail facility, which is scheduled to open by the end of 2001.

"Robert Green is an excellent choice for this position-he is an energetic, veteran correctional manager with a superior reputation in this region," said Wallenstein. "He particularly impressed us with his comprehensive understanding of jail security operations, his dedication to working with employees, and his personal commitment to community involvement and participation."

Green was among five finalists who underwent an intensive screening process, which included meetings with community leaders, current staff and employee union representatives, and senior County managers. "We wanted the broadest input possible for this very important decision, and we are grateful for the community's involvement in this process." said Wallenstein.

Green began his career with the Frederick County Sheriff's Office Corrections Bureau in 1985, serving as Warden of the Adult Detention Center since 1997.

Under Green's leadership, Frederick County's Adult Detention Center received national accreditation by the American Correctional Association, the National Commission on Corrections Health Care and the Maryland Commission on Correctional Standards. Green also serves as a national accreditation auditor on jail operations for the American Correctional Association, a consultant to the U.S. Department of Justice/National Institute of Corrections, and as an instructor for the American Jail Association.

Green will begin his new post on December 4.
