For Immediate Release (January 31, 2000)
Alternate Polling Sites Available
For Voters With Disabilities
Elderly or disabled registered voters who reside in precincts where the polling places are not accessible because of structural barriers may request reassignment to an alternate polling place. An application for reassignment must be made to the elections office no later than 9 p.m. on February 11, 2000.
Voters may check their Voter Notification card for the accessibility status of their polling place. For more information about accessibility or to request an application for reassignment to another polling place, call the Board of Elections office at 240-777-8500.
Reassignment is permitted by Maryland law if a barrier-free polling place is available in a precinct which has a ballot identical to the precinct in which the voter resides.
If a satisfactory substitute polling place is not available or if the voter does not wish to be reassigned, voting by absentee ballot is an alternative. Applications for absentee ballots must be submitted to the Board of Elections by 5 p.m. on February 29, 2000. For more information on absentee voting, call the Absentee Voting Department at 240-777-8550 or the 24-hour Absentee Voting Line at 240-777-8565, or visit the website at www.co.mo.md.us/services/elections.
