COUNTY'S HUMAN RELATIONS COMMISSION
HOSTS FIRST ANNUAL HUMAN RIGHTS AWARDS CEREMONY
The Montgomery County Human Relations Commission will hold its first annual human rights awards ceremony on Thursday, December 14 at 7:45 a.m., at the Chevy Chase Holiday Inn, 5520 Wisconsin Avenue, Chevy Chase.
The awards ceremony was initiated by the Human Relations Commission to annually recognize local citizens who have been instrumental in breaking barriers and healing divisiveness among groups of people, as well as promoting respect and bridging differences.
This year's award will be presented posthumously to Michael J. Gough, a well-known community activist in Silver Spring and a public school system administrator in Montgomery County.
Montgomery County Executive Douglas M. Duncan will give remarks along with Human Relations Commission Executive Director Odessa Shannon.
Tickets to the breakfast and ceremony are $15 and can be purchased at the Human Relations Commission located at 110 North Washington Street, Rockville, MD. Space is limited and tickets will be sold on a first come, first served basis. Tickets will not be sold at the door.
The Chevy Chase Holiday Inn is located two blocks from the Friendship Heights Metro Station. Parking at the hotel will be free for this event.
