County Opens Local Drop-Off Points
For Mixed Paper Recyclables
Due to the great interest expressed by residents in recycling mixed paper as soon as possible, the County's Division of Solid Waste Services has opened four local drop-off sites around the county. The sites will remain open until curbside collection of mixed paper recyclables begins in each area.
Residents may also acquire an additional or replacement recycling bin at the sites. Compost bins will also be offered for sale during warmer weather months.
Items accepted at the local drop-offs include newspapers (and inserts), magazines, catalogs, cereal boxes, corrugated cardboard, computer and office paper, and phone books.
Items not acceptable for recycling are packing materials such as styrofoam or plastic, beverage containers, any food-soiled paper, foil gift wrap, wax paper, paper towels, napkins or tissues.
Mixed paper recyclables may be taken to the following sites, monthly, only during the hours of operation:
First Saturday - Poolesville, Poolesville High School, 17501 Willard Rd., 9 a.m. to noon. (Aluminum also accepted at this site.) Will operate through July 1, 2000.
Second Saturday - Damascus, Safeway Store, Damascus Center, 8 a.m. to noon. Will operate through August 12, 2000. Silver Spring, Montgomery Blair High School, 51 University Blvd. East. 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Will operate through June 10, 2000.
Third Saturday - Potomac, Potomac Community Center, 11315 Falls Rd. (upper parking lot near tennis courts), 9 a.m. to noon. Will operate through July 15, 2000. Bethesda, Walt Whitman High School, 7100 Whittier Blvd., 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Will operate through July 15, 2000.
