Trash, Recycling Reminders
Issued for Holiday Season

The County's Division of Solid Waste Services reminds residents of the following collection schedule changes and recycling tips during the upcoming holidays.

Collection Schedules for Trash and Recyclables

Residents are reminded that during the Christmas and New Year's weeks, all trash and recycling pick ups will occur one day later than usual, i.e. Monday collections will occur on Tuesday, Tuesday's collections will be on Wednesday, etc.

Seasonal Recycling Tips

Because this is the first holiday collection period since the Countywide implementation of mixed paper recycling, residents are reminded that while paper gift wrappings may be recycled, foil wrappings are not acceptable and should not be put with recyclables.

Single-family and town home residents who receive County recycling collection services may put their Christmas trees at curbside for pick up from December 26 through January 31. Trees must be free of tinsel, ornaments and stands, and must not be wrapped in plastic bags. (Trees in plastic bags will not be picked up.) Christmas trees collected at curbside will be taken to the County's Solid Waste Transfer Station and converted to mulch.

Transfer Station/Upcounty Drop Off Sites Schedules

The County's Solid Waste Transfer Station will be closed on December 24, 25, and 31, and January 1, 2001.

The public drop-off sites in Poolesville and Damascus will also be closed during the Christmas and New Year's weekends -- December 23-24 and 30-31.

For further information about holiday recycling schedules, call the Division of Solid Waste Services at 240-777-6410.
