Duncan Seeks Applicants for
Commission on Common Ownership Communities
County Executive Douglas M. Duncan is seeking applicants to fill five vacancies on the Commission on Common Ownership Communities in the following categories: two vacancies are for resident representatives; two vacancies are for professional representatives (attorneys, property managers, investment owners); and one vacancy is for a real estate sales or developer representative. Four incumbents are eligible to apply for reappointment. Those reapplying need to indicate their current employment in their letter.
The 15-member commission advises the County Executive and County Council on ways to handle common ownership of property in communities; promote public awareness of the rights and obligations of living in common ownership communities; eliminate disputes; and maintain property values and quality of life in community associations. The commission conducts administrative hearings on disputes not resolved by mediation by the Department of Housing and Community Affairs, Division of Consumer Affairs.
Voting members serve three-year terms without compensation and are required to complete annual confidential financial disclosure statements. Meetings are held the first Wednesday evening of each month, in addition to monthly committee meetings and hearings.
Interested citizens should write by December 29 to County Executive Douglas M. Duncan at the Executive Office Building, 101 Monroe St., Rockville, MD 20850. The correspondence should describe applicable experience, affiliations, and both business and home telephone numbers. A brief resume should be also be included. Members of County boards, committees and commissions may not serve on more than one such group at a time.
Duncan's appointments are subject to confirmation by the County Council. Applications of those selected for appointment are made public as part of the confirmation process.
