County Recognizes Fitzgerald Auto Mall
For Record Number of Child Safety Seat Inspections

Montgomery County Executive Douglas M. Duncan will recognize Fitzgerald Auto Mall owner, John J. Fitzgerald, for recording his 10,000th child safety seat inspection. This number represents the highest number of child safety seat checks conducted by an organization in the Washington area.

At a regularly scheduled car seat safety check on Friday, December 15, Saralee Todd, Special Assistant to the County Executive, will represent Duncan and present a certificate of appreciation to Fitzgerald, recognizing this milestone number of car seat inspections. The free car seat check is being held at Fitzgerald Auto Mall, located at 5501 Nicholson Lane in Rockville.

"Having 10,000 car seats inspected during the past two years would not have been possible without the dedication and commitment shown by Jack Fitzgerald," said Duncan. "And, I hope that all parents of small children will take advantage of this program, since a properly installed child safety restraint will significantly reduce the risk of serious injury or death."

Fitzgerald Automotive has been sponsoring the car seat checks since February 1999, in cooperation with Montgomery County and the Montgomery County SAFE KIDS Coalition. Last year, 4,500 car seat checks were performed, and that number increased to 5,300 in 2000. Fitzgerald's trained technicians, who now train other organizations in the safety techniques, are expected to inspect an estimated 300 seats at the car seat check on Friday.
