Montgomery County's Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Commemorative Committee has extended the deadline for accepting nominations for its annual Humanitarian and "Children of the Dream" awards to Monday, January 8, 2001.

Award nominees must be Montgomery County residents who have demonstrated through deeds and activities their commitment to perpetuate the goals and ideals communicated by Dr. King. Nominations for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Humanitarian Award should include a biographical sketch of the nominee, identifying community and civic accomplishments that represent and symbolize the dream of Dr. King.

Nominees for "Children of the Dream" awards - which will be presented to both a male and female high school student must have demonstrated outstanding community involvement as an individual volunteer or as part of an organization. Activities may include a single significant act or an ongoing effort, and must be above and beyond routine class work.
