COUNTY EMPLOYEES WIN
COMMUTER TRANSPORTATION AWARDS
Montgomery County won seven of the 17 awards presented recently at the 13th annual holiday luncheon of the Chesapeake Chapter Association for Commuter Transportation, which includes Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.
Members of the Association for Commuter Transportation are transportation professionals who develop partnerships between business and government to reduce road congestion, improve air quality, and make commuting easier.
The Montgomery County employees and programs were honored with the following awards:
Unsung Hero: Cecelia Hatton, Montgomery County Commuter Services
Hatton was recognized for her commitment and dedication as an indispensable member of the Commuter Services team.
Maryland Outstanding Marketing Campaign: Smartmover, North Bethesda Transportation Management District
The campaign was recognized for its promotion of a new suburb-to-suburb express bus between Tysons Corner, Virginia and Montgomery County, a corridor that previously lacked a direct transit link.
Outstanding Bicycle Program: Bike on Bus, North Bethesda Transportation Management District
The program was recognized for its hands-on demonstration to educate residents about the availability of bike racks on Ride-On buses.
Outstanding New Initiatives: Commuter Express Store, Montgomery County Division of Transit Services
The Store was recognized for increasing the number of new transit customers, far exceeding expectations. The store offers a full range of transit/commuter services, informs and educates the public about transit, and addresses the unique needs of local transit customers.
President's Award: Robin Bard, North Bethesda Transportation Management District
Bard was honored for her service to the Association for Commuter Transportation as a chapter officer.
Lifetime Achievement: Thomas Pogue, Montgomery County Commuter Services, and
Peggy Schwartz, North Bethesda Transportation Management District
Pogue and Schwartz were recognized for their outstanding service to the Association for Commuter Transportation and long-time support of transit and ridesharing options in the Washington metropolitan region.
