"Silver Summer"

Summer employment and community service opportunities for youth will be highlighted at a job/activities fair to be held on Saturday, March 4, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Rosemary Hills Elementary School, 2111 Porter Rd., Silver Spring.
Entitled "Silver Summer," the fair will feature information on summer jobs, training programs, summer camps and community service openings available in Silver Spring. Staff from local businesses and agencies will provide information on specific jobs and accept applications.
Participants include the YMCA, Job Corps, Conservation Corps, Marriott Corporation, Montgomery County departments of Recreation and Public Libraries, Edison Technical High School, Montgomery Youth Works and the Montgomery County Police Explorers, as well as others.
Free round-trip shuttle bus service to the fair will be available from the Long Branch Community Center, the Carroll Avenue Community Center and Broadacres Elementary School between 9:45 a.m. and 2:15 p.m.
Teens 14 and older can also sign up for job readiness training, to be offered in April. Included in the training will be seminars by business professionals on good work habits, resume writing, interview skills and personal presentation. Participants who complete the course will receive a certificate, along with follow-up counseling from the YMCA staff.
The training session is offered by the Bethesda and Silver Spring YMCA Youth Services, the Silver Spring Regional Services Center, and the Montgomery County departments of Health and Human Services and Recreation.
